Miguel G. MatiasFreshwater ecology & global change

MIGUEL G. MATIAS / BACKGROUND

About

Miguel G. Matias is a Científico Titular (Senior Researcher) at the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN–CSIC) in Madrid. His research sits at the intersection of freshwater ecology, macroecology and paleolimnology, combining lake-sediment records, large-scale distribution and food-web modelling, and coordinated experiments to understand how freshwater biodiversity responds to environmental change. Recent work includes reconstructing human and climatic impacts on Azorean lake ecosystems, hierarchical modelling of aquatic species distributions, and PondNet, a proposed global network of climate-change experiments in aquatic ecosystems. He previously held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship at Imperial College London and postdoctoral positions at the MNCN and at CNRS–Université de Montpellier, after a PhD at the University of Sydney.
